Ratings Forming Part of Engineering Watch
SCOPE:
The content of this cours include the important Basic Engineering knowledge that a seafarer should learn, understand and apply when keeping watch in the Engine Room, as well as; the precautionary and preventive action that should be undertaken in the occurence of accidents such as engine fire, power failure , flooding , and oil spill.
This module was designed to satisfy the requirements of Regulation 111/4 (Mandatory Minimum Requirements for Rating Forming Part of an Engine Room Watch) of the e Maritime Organization STCW Convention 1995.
Objective:
- To enhance the competence of the trainees in the operation of all the machineries and related system in the engine room.
- To build the confidence and familiarized the trainees on their watchkeeping duties at sea or in port.
- To develop preparedness in dealing with engine room emergencies such as engine room fire, power failure, flooding and etc.

- Objective of the Convention:
To Promote safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment by establishing in common agreement international standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers. - General Obligations of the parties under the convention:
The parties undertake to promulgate all laws, decrees, orders and regulations and to take all other steps may be necessary to give the convention full and complete effect so as to ensure that from the point of view of safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment seafarers on board ships are qualified and fit for their duties.
